Madrid or bust

Last nights venture was into a very plain 20’s to 50’s area of buildings. Today, as we traveled on the bus, most of it was pretty similar as we entered the city center.  Once we broke through the outer layer, València showed it’s true colors as a mix of architecture, dating from before Christ to modern times with extravagant architecture in places.  Roman, Arabic, Basque and more, influenced the city. Cathedrals everywhere and markets to die for.

Seeing how they eat, makes me envious.  Fresh produce, meets, cheeses and breads, that you purchase every day and take home to prepare for the family is so much more than the frozen pizza/ entre we are used to.

Interesting note: Gutenberg was born here and invented the 1st printing press here.  They seem to take their literature, arts, music and science very seriously.

After the ground tour, we were given a few minutes to make a lifetime of memories...  It was lunchtime as well. The temperature was increasing by the second and thirst was becoming a critical issue.  Cerveza to the rescue!  Being in the center of the tourist area, bebidas were priced at a premium.  One, would have to suffice here.  We opted to move a little further away once these were done, to find a more reasonably priced meal.  After a hell-of-a-big-beer and a couple of stiff drinks, we ordered comida.  Eric and I opted to share a ham and cheese sandwich; the ladies ordered salads.  Everything looks so darned good on the menus and displays, we have tended to order much more than we could possibly consume. In only certain cases, is that practical.

Our memory-making moments, having lapsed, we took our lunch to go.  The other day, we had purchased some Cava to go, so we were set for libations as well.

Luckily we were at the back of the bus, on this particular day.  A party ensued.  Shortly after, our lack of sleep and satiation/inebriation, demanded slumber.  That’s a good thing because when we finally awoke, we were approaching a very much needed rest stop.

We’re back on the bus, headed for Madrid… it’ll be late when we get there, so we’ll wonder off and explore the surroundings.

Tomorrow is the official tour and free time to explore on our own.
